Many years ago I was out for a run along the back roads that surround the Fountain Valley area. One Advantage of my running, is how slow I am. I have time to take in God’s beauty and to ponder the many mysteries of life. Actually I spend most of my time praying or listening to the Father’s voice.
During this particular run I kept receiving three words, over and over: “The Father’s Garden!”
While I was confident of God’s presence, I had no idea what this was. I spent many years asking the Father for an explanation. Finally after 20 years of service with Young Life, God decided that my wife, Christi and I were done. We left our positions with the ministry and anxiously awaited the Lord’s direction into the next season of our journey.
He decided to reveal His plan:cThe Father’s Garden was a mission to pursue young men for the Kingdom.
The young men that for many reasons were still in the Widefield, Security, and Fountain Valley area, who no longer had access to Young Life needed a Godly man to walk with them to a richer relationship with Jesus. We would provide a source of fellowship and the opportunity to learn from strong believers. Mature Christian men that were immersed in God’s Grace and had been healed at the Cross of Jesus, walking through life together.
Max Lucado said, “God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus”. This mission would seek these men out so that God could reveal His heart to them. A heart that wants for all to repent, all to be healed, all to be resurrected in a new life, in Jesus.
The Father’s Garden would be used for this purpose. We would humbly be a part of this mission. God Is GOOD!!!
